Hi there! My name is Diane Farris and I own this place (and website) called Powerhouse Tattoo. Welcome! I opened this shop over ten years ago in a lovely little college town in New Jersey called Montclair. For our full address, see the "Contact Us" section... and all I hoped for was a few loyal customers... Well, time has gone by, and we have at LEAST a few loyal customers. When we try to figure out why we have more than a few, many facets of the business are taken into consideration:

WE ARE NICE. Really! We have fun here, why shouldn't you? Just because we're poking needles into the bodies of our customers doesn't mean we have to be morose. Customers actually ENJOY coming back!

WE CAN TATTOO VERY WELL. Yep. Usually if you don't do something very well, you don't stay in business twelve years. We have a very talented crew of artists who can give you the tattoo that you want, and explain to you our care instructions, as well as the reasons behind them. Most of the artists at Powerhouse have art school training IF NOT a degree in some kind of art!

WE CARE. It makes a difference to us if you like your tattoo. We have often, and I'm sure, will again, recommend that someone go home if they really can't decide on a design. A little bit of extra money certainly doesn't outweigh a truckload of karma from pushing a tattoo onto someone before they are ready for it. We respect your decision for your body art, and will not SELL you something for the sake of making a buck!

WE KNOW. Between all of the workers at Powerhouse, we must have a couple hundred tattoos adorning our bodies, and close to 50 years tattooing experience. If you have a question, chances are very good that we can answer it adequately and accurately.

WE ARE PROFESSIONALS. You will NOT find any trainees doing tattoos or piercings for half-price or otherwise here. Every piercer and artist at Powerhouse is completely capable of doing your bodywork, and fully experienced. No one working at this shop has less than 2 years shop experience- nothing half-assed is done in this shop. EVER! Your body is not worth experimenting on! We have the experience to let you know how that teeny tiny design may look on your skin 15 years from now, and how to change it first, so it will hold up over time.

So what do these points add up to? This: we are capable of doing ANY kind of work at Powerhouse. We've got a hugely talented group of artists at your disposal. Whatever kind of work you are interested in, we can do it for you. It is my goal to be diverse and not try to steer customers toward what MY favorite tattoo might be that week. A lot of times first timers come in asking, "what should I get?" and I always tell them the same thing- that is " I don't know YOU, get what YOU like!" The point I'm trying to make is; figure out your desires. Get in tune with what makes you tick. Look around. What's hung up on your refrigerator? What do you have at your workstation or stuck on your notebook or skateboard? What kind of art do you surround yourself with at home? Think of what likes or hobbies make you different. Once you figure out the kind of tattoo and feeling you want, then come to us. We do our best as your body art professionals to zero in on EXACTLY what is going to make you happy, whether it's something from our huge reference library, or an entirely custom piece. We are talented, clean and conscientious, and your dreams CAN be turned into reality on your skin - just do it!

Although we are very serious about tattoos and our work, you will find in general an open, light atmosphere at Powerhouse. There's no need to be too serious! But ask to see a packaged needle, ask about full healing instructions or why we must see photo ID from every single person EACH time they get tattooed, and we will give you the straight up solid answer you look for and need. Powerhouse personnel are members of the Alliance of Professional Tattooists & the National Tattoo Association, so rest assured, we're the pros! But at the same time, we all enjoy our work, and our enthusiasm shows! This site does have it's serious parts- as does tattooing in its own right, but we've tried to make it fun at well. So step in, look around, and hopefully you'll come on down and see the real thing!

cheers!
Diane :]
